It’s World AIDS Day!

It’s been estimated by the CDC that there are nearly 35,000 new cases of AIDS diagnosed in the US every year. That’s the same population as my home town!

There ARE things you can do. According to the World Aids Day website, you just need to RESPECT and PROTECT yourself. HIV/AIDS is preventable through the use of latex condoms. The website suggest five steps:

1.Find out the facts about HIV/AIDS, and talk about it with others-spread truth, dispel the myths!

2. Get yourself tested for HIV.  This site offers a searchable database of places where you can get tested for FREE. Find one near you and make a day of it. Take a friend. It’s free!

3. Use a condom when you have sex-every time!

4. If someone tells you that they are HIV positive, treat them with respect and don’t tell others without their permission!

5. Wear a red ribbon to show your support to everyone affected by HIV and raise awareness about the issue. You can also tweet about #worldaidsday on Twitter and turn your tweets red to raise awareness in the online community!
