celebs keepin’ it real
Some celebrities elect to use their position for good causes. I like that. Brad Pitt is building houses in Katrina-struck NOLA, Angelina is busy being a humanitarian, everybody on MTV’s got their “vote or die” shirt on or whatever-but what about STI’s? It seems like everybody wants to talk about them but nobody wans to TALK about them.
With a few exceptions. A few celebrities have come out to talk about their STI’s to educate the public, and I say, kudos to them. It’s a brave thing to do.
Listen people, I don’t give a damn how far I am from Dixie, I will always, always love fellow Kentuckians the Judds. Naomi Judd is a Hepatitis C survivor who has bravely shared her story and experience living with it with everyone in the world. While I’m sure she receives a lot of backlash and criticism for coming out with her story, I admire her for being so open and honest-it sets a great example for everyone listening. You can check out her story in her own words on her website, located here. It seems like she’s done a great job living with HepC and offers a lot of resources for people dealing with the same thing. She’s a little more religious than I am, for sure, but I still admire her courage and the fact that she wants to help other people out, too.
Anne Heche has also come out and said that she has herpes, and also has been brave enough to share her story-in her book, on tv, and in interviews. She was infected by her own father who molested her as a child and has also been very brave in sharing that story with the world too… there are really no words to express how my heart hurts after reading her story. However, her bravery in sharing her story has contributed to de-stigmatizing STI’s for society at large.
