Sara’s “Vision”

My name is Sara. I’m a student at Western Kentucky University working toward a Master’s in Sociology with a certificate in Women’s Studies online. Although I’m originally from Kentucky, I’m now happily settled in Chicago, IL.  I like learning about the world and trying to make it a better place. Pop culture is one of my general interests as well as an academic one, especially issues of gender in pop culture. I’m also the queen of “guilty pleasures” and am the world’s biggest Lindsay Lohan fan(I swear).

My vision is to create a better world for EVERYBODY! As a feminist, I’ve always felt in touch with issues of sexual and reproductive health, especially for other young adults, and believe in a “free knowledge” society. I’m also really “over it” as far as the stigma around STD’s goes-the shitstorm surrounding the Gardasil vaccine and the things people were saying about the issue really made me see that. I hope for a culture where even though it can be difficult, people in a relationship can talk about their intimate issues openly with one another-not just for sexual health but emotional health too.
